Why Pleat to Sett?
Pleating to sett preserves the Angels' Share® tartan's sacred symmetry, ensuring seamless pattern flow across the kilt's back and front.
Pleat to sett provides:
Complete sett continuity from waist to hem
Classic visual harmony that elevates the design
Perfect showcase for the registered tartan's ethereal glow
The result wraps you in uninterrupted geometry, across the full kilt.
For a bold celestial stripe effect, choose the military stripe finish:

Front Apron Fringe Options
The Angels' Share® Kilt features your choice of single or triple fringe on the front apron—both handcrafted to traditional standards.
Triple fringe adds luxurious layered texture and is the default unless specified otherwise.
• Single Fringe: Clean, classic finish for understated elegance.
• Triple Fringe (standard): Rich depth and movement—my personal recommendation.
No extra cost. Note your preference in the order notes or email steve@thetartanartisan.com.

Pricing Note
The original 13oz kilt launched in 2016 at £589. This heavier 16oz version accounts for upgraded material weight and tailoring costs.

For larger builds or fuller fit, select the "Oversized Kilt" variant using 4.2m of double-width tartan (vs. 3.7m standard) for extended fabric length and enhanced pleat swing.

The Story in the Weave
The Angels' Share® Tartan, created by Steven Patrick Sim, honours the mystery and romance of whisky maturation. Inspired by the symbolic 2% of spirit lost to evaporation during aging—known as the angels' share—this tartan celebrates Scotland's world-famous national drink and the ethereal transformation that shapes it.
Each colour in the tartan tells a story, representing a key element of whisky creation:
- Amber – (40%): The maturing spirit
- Ochre – (2%): Yeast and angels' share
- Brown – Oak casks
- Blue – Pure Scottish water
- Indigo – Coal-fired stills
- Yellow – Ripened barley
-
White – Angelic presence
Together, these hues form a sacred palette of light, nature, and spirit—wrapping the wearer in the luminous geometry and tradition of the Angels' Share® tartan.
