After years of requests and hopeful nudges from around the world, I’m delighted to announce the return of the Angels’ Share® kilt—now expertly crafted in Lochcarron’s 16oz Strome heavyweight woollen tartan.

The previous edition, woven in 2016 on the Isle of Bute in 13oz, found its way to customers across Scotland, the US, and beyond. Many missed out and reached out, hoping for its return. In the years since, I’ve devoted time to other creative projects and collaborations, so the kilt’s revival had to wait until I could give it the care and attention it truly deserves.

Now, with renewed focus, I’m excited to bring it back—thoughtfully refined and ready for a new chapter.

This is now that moment.

Why 16oz? And why Lochcarron?

For this run I chose Lochcarron’s heavyweight Strome cloth for several reasons — not least because it’s woven right here in Scotland, using locally bred Scottish wool. This was important to me. I wanted a cloth that was not only visually rich, but as Scottish as the story it carries.

The Strome cloth, I believe, has real substance. It’s firm in the hand, holds a crisp pleat, and has a texture that feels rooted in the land it’s from. It’s strong, reliable, and authentic — everything I hoped to embody in this kilt.

Seven Colours, One Legacy


The Angels’ Share® tartan design remains true to its origins, woven with seven meaningful shades, each telling a part of the whisky story:

  • AMBER
    — symbolising the spirit itself (…and 40% proof)

  • OCHRE
    — representing fermenting yeast

  • BROWN
    — evoking the oak casks

  • BLUE
    — for the pure Scottish water

  • INDIGO
    — recalling the coal that fires the stills

  • YELLOW
    — the richness of ripened barley

  • WHITE
    — the angels taking their share


With the transition to Lochcarron’s 16oz Strome cloth, these colours now reveal even greater depth and vibrancy. The heavier weave brings out a distinct visual warmth and strength, offering a new dimension to the tartan’s character compared to the original 13oz edition.

Two Styles — Sett or Military Stripe

You can now order the Angels’ Share® Kilt in either:

  • PLEATED TO THE SETT — showcasing the balanced geometry of the tartan.

  • PLEATED TO THE STRIPE — a more luminous, dynamic effect with a military flair.

Both are made from the same 16oz cloth, and both are made to measure. Choose what suits you best.

Options & Additions

A few additions are now available:

  • Oversized kilt option (for waist sizes 48"+): uses more cloth, with a small surcharge.

  • Hidden pocket: discreetly sewn into the pleats, perfect for a phone or passport.

  • Matching accessories: Flashes included free. Matching fringed fly plaid ...or purled & knotted plaid available.

Each kilt is individually tailored to order, with no stock held in reserve, ensuring a bespoke garment made solely for its wearer.

 

Numbered & Certified — A Numbered Edition

The first 1,494 Angels’ Share® kilts — including this new heavyweight run — are individually numbered and come with a signed certificate of authenticity, in tribute to the earliest recorded mention of whisky in 1494.

Each kilt is numbered in sequence, and if you have a preferred number, I’m happy to accommodate your request whenever possible—adding a personal touch to your order. Otherwise, you’ll receive the lowest available number at the time of purchase.
