This page is the historical record of the original Declaration of Arbroath Gold Metallic C-Type Pewter Edition. It is no longer in production and cannot be ordered as a new framed work.

The specialist metallic C-Type production route on which this edition depended became unavailable. Rather than quietly substitute a different paper or print process inside an existing numbered edition, Steven Patrick Sim concluded the original publication and created Burnished Gold as a separate successor.

Why production was concluded

The physical identity of this edition depended on a specific combination of metallic photographic paper, C-Type exposure and chemical processing, rigid mounting, specialist framing and glass. Once the metallic C-Type production route was no longer available, changing to a different paper and pigment-print process would have changed the nature of the numbered edition itself.

The original Gold Metallic C-Type Edition remains what it was. Burnished Gold is its successor — not a substituted continuation.

These galleries are retained as a record of the original physical series. They show the historic size options, the print outside its frame, the framed presentation, the original certificate, metallic surface detail and the supporting booklet.

Please note: these photographs show the original Fuji Pearl C-Type edition and its framing. They do not depict the current Hahnemühle Burnished Gold print.

Historic print process & framing specification

The original edition was produced as a digital chromogenic / C-Type metallic photographic print. The image was exposed onto Fuji Pearl Premier Metallic paper using a professional LightJet workflow and chemically developed as a continuous-tone photographic print.

Metallic photographic surface: created the smooth reflective character associated with the original series
Silver-halide photographic process: a true chromogenic photographic print rather than pigment inkjet
Rigid mounted finish: dry mounted to a flat panel before framing
Framed presentation: a grey-toned mount and satin black wooden frame, under specialist reflection-control glass

This specification is retained for historical accuracy. It is not the specification of the current Burnished Gold successor.

The prices shown above are the final published 2026 prices for the complete framed Gold Metallic C-Type artwork before production concluded. They are retained as part of the historical record and are not current selling prices.

Certificate, hologram & booklet — historic series

The original framed edition was issued with a numbered certificate, serialised hologram authentication and a twenty-page English and Latin booklet. The archive galleries remain online as a record of that presentation system.

Copies already issued remain part of their original numbered editions. Ending production does not change the identity or provenance of those collector pieces.

The current successor — Burnished Gold Pewter

The current Pewter publication keeps the visual idea of the Declaration illuminated through metallic light, but the physical artwork has been rebuilt from the ground up:

Printed, numbered and certified in Arbroath by Steven Patrick Sim
Collector Edition and Life-Size Edition, each independently limited to 1,320 copies
Supplied unframed and protected in a wide-diameter transit tube
New Certificate of Authenticity and paired serialised hologram system

The Burnished Gold successor is deliberately supplied unframed. This makes the artwork much more practical to deliver within the UK and internationally, avoids the difficulty of transporting a large glazed frame, and leaves the final framing choice with the collector. At the time of this archive update in August 2026, the current Pewter Collector Edition is £199 and the Life-Size Edition is £299, including VAT.

Collectors who prefer a presentation similar to the historic framed series may arrange professional conservation framing independently. Aizle Framing, Balfron, who framed the original series, remains one option. If preferred, Steven can also coordinate delivery of the unframed artwork directly to a chosen framer when arranged before ordering.
