The Angel in the Rain
The Angels’ Share® — Emblem Umbrella follows the same creative path as my kilts and fine art prints, carrying the artwork from the original 16oz Strome‑weight woven cloth into something made for weather, not just the wardrobe.
While working with the tartan, one pivot in the sett kept catching my eye — a quiet balance of light, colour, and form within a single square of the weave.
I ended up photographing that very detail and turning it into a repeatable motif, and from that small piece of geometry came the canopy you see here — not a digital substitute, but a continuation of the original cloth.
That moment stayed with me. During a spell of heavy rain here in Scotland at the end of January 2026, as Storm Chandra rolled through and the sky turned wild yet again, the thought of an umbrella built from that pivot began to feel less like an idea and more like something that wanted to be made. It became a way to offer shelter using the same language of light, whisky, and oak that runs through the Angels’ Share tartan.
In this design, the tartan sits beside warm, oak‑toned panels that fade from deep brown into a soft amber glow, echoing whisky resting in the cask. On those amber panels lies the Angels’ Share emblem — drawn from the geometry within the sett itself, its rising “2%” form hinting at the spirit lost to the angels during maturation.
As the umbrella turns, the angelic emblems appear as watchful guardians set between the geometry of the tartan. A quiet circle of eight panels, and four 'angels' — everyday shelter that traces back to the loom, the cask, and the slow passage of time.
How the Light Moves
Printed on the bias, the gold, white, amber, wood‑brown, and blue tones of the tartan shift as the umbrella turns — like light moving through oak and spirit. The emblem panels fade from rich brown to warm amber at the crown, adding depth and warmth even on a grey day.
Beneath the surface lies a functional build: a wind‑resistant canopy in recycled performance fabric, eight panels, and a strong frame built for real Scottish weather. Designed in Scotland and made in the UK, it’s meant to be carried often — through city streets, along the coast, on the green, or on the school run when the sky turns.
If you’re unsure which style suits you best, the sections below guide you through each umbrella, with galleries and full specifications to help you choose.
Choosing Your Umbrella Style
The Angels’ Share Emblem design is offered here in three styles, all using the same canopy artwork applied across eight panels:
City Umbrella — Brown Handle
Classic crook handle in a warm brown (natural) finish with automatic open and a reassuring top lock. A good everyday choice if you like a traditional silhouette with a softer, whisky‑oak feel in the handle.City Umbrella — Black Handle
The same frame and canopy as the brown version, but with a black crook handle for a cleaner, more contemporary look. Suits darker outerwear, tailoring, and anyone who prefers a more understated handle.Golf Umbrella
A larger, 2‑person canopy with auto‑open function, soft‑touch handle and rubberised tip — ideal for open spaces, events, or simply when you like more room under the canopy. The emblem and tartan repeat across the eight panels so the design reads clearly even at this larger scale.
Each style carries the same authentic Angels’ Share artwork around all eight panels, with the emblem and tartan alternating so the rhythm of the design holds from every angle. On the golf in particular, the extra span means you stand beneath a fuller circle of angelic pivots — a small comfort when the rain is coming in sideways.
| Style | Total height | Full canopy |
|---|---|---|
| City (Brown / Black) | Approx. 89 cm / 35" | Approx. 102 cm / 40.2" |
| Golf | Approx. 101 cm / 39.5" | Approx. 152 cm / 59.8" |
Measurements follow the maker’s guidance and are given as Total height and Full canopy. Small variations are normal within manufacturing tolerance.
City Umbrella – Brown Handle
This is the most familiar, easy‑going build, with a comfortable crook handle and an automatic open so you can get the canopy up quickly when the rain starts.
The brown handle ties in with the oak‑tone panels on the canopy, so there is a quiet link between the grip in your hand and the warm gradient at the top of the umbrella. The gallery below shows the umbrella from outside and underneath, including close‑ups of the emblem and the bias‑set tartan panels.
| Style | City Auto Open – Brown handle |
| Total height | Approx. 89 cm / 35" |
| Full canopy | Approx. 102 cm / 40.2" |
| Opening | Automatic open with top lock |
| Handle | Natural “brown” crook handle |
| Best for | Everyday city use with a classic, warm look |
City Umbrella – Black Handle
The black‑handled City umbrella shares the same frame and canopy as the brown version but feels a touch more modern in the hand. It pairs beautifully with darker coats and tailoring, or if you prefer a cleaner, more understated handle against the tartan.
Use the gallery here to see how the emblem sits on the alternating amber and tartan panels. The views from above and underneath reveal how light creates a soft, diffused glow through the waterproof canopy material.

| Total height | Approx. 89 cm / 35" |
| Full canopy | Approx. 102 cm / 40.2" |
| Opening | Automatic open with top lock |
| Handle | Black crook handle |
| Best for | City use with a cleaner, contemporary feel |
Golf Umbrella
The Golf umbrella offers a broader canopy with the same eight‑panel emblem layout, giving more room for the artwork to breathe and more coverage in heavy rain.
In the gallery you’ll see how the Angel’s Share emblem and tartan spread generously across the broader canopy, with the warm amber gradient rising to meet at the crown. Perfect if you're out in the open more often, or simply prefer the substantial scale of a traditional golf umbrella.

The Tartan Behind the Canopy
The Angels’ Share® Tartan was woven as a 16oz Strome‑weight cloth to honour Scotland’s national drink and the quiet loss of spirit during maturation. Within the weave, subtle, almost ethereal shapes began to appear — an unexpected presence, the “angels in the weave,” revealing themselves only once the fabric came to life on the loom.
The umbrella canopy is built directly from that same artwork, taken from the original woven pivot rather than a digital imitation. It’s simply another way to carry that story — lifted from the kilt and the studio and brought out into the weather, where, truth be told, most Scots spend a good part of their lives.
Designed in Scotland and handmade in the UK, the Angels’ Share® Tartan Umbrella keeps the same spirit alive — honest, useful, and made to last. 😇
