Operated by Steven Patrick Sim t/a The Tartan Artisan®
Governing Law: Scotland | Compliance Framework: CRA 2015 & CCR 2013
1. Purpose of This Policy
This policy explains your rights to cancel, return, or receive a refund when purchasing from The Tartan Artisan® through thetartanartisan.com, tartan.love, or project domains such as TARTAN250.
We want you to be delighted with every item you receive.
2. Our Fulfilment Routes
Fulfilment route summary
- Studio stock items: returnable if unused, in original condition, and within the stated return window.
- Made-to-measure kilts and Highland wear: bespoke/custom work; cancellation is restricted once cloth is cut or production begins.
- Specialist framed Declaration artworks: deposit and cancellation treatment depends on the production stage and costs already committed.
- Fine-art prints via theprintspace: replacement or refund support for damage, defects, or production faults.
- Contrado print-on-demand products: made to order; refund/replacement support for confirmed production errors or damage.
Each category has slightly different return conditions, outlined below.
Additional 5 July 2026 note: specialist framed Declaration artworks, including the Declaration of Arbroath Fine-Art 3D Facsimile — 7th Centennial Edition and Declaration Gold Metallic Print Editions, have separate cancellation and deposit terms because they may involve reserved edition allocation, order-specific finishing, certification, framing, specialist handling, collection, local delivery, or custom delivery quoting.
3. Your Right to Cancel (Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013)
For non-custom goods purchased online, you may cancel within 14 days of receiving your order.
You must notify us in writing at enquiries@thetartanartisan.com before returning the item.
Exceptions:
-
Made-to-Measure Kilts and custom print-on-demand products are bespoke and therefore exempt once production has begun, unless faulty or not as described (CCR Reg 28(1)(b)).
-
Digital downloads or personalised artworks are also exempt after file delivery.
-
Specialist framed Declaration artworks and deposit/reservation orders may be cancellable before production, allocation, certification, bespoke finishing, framing, or other committed work begins. Once order-specific work has begun, cancellation may be limited and any refund may be reduced or refused to reflect costs already committed, subject always to your statutory rights if the item is faulty, damaged, or not as described.
4. Eligibility for Returns
To be eligible for a refund or exchange, items must be:
- Unused, in original condition and packaging.
- Returned within the time frame stated below.
- Accompanied by proof of purchase or order number.
We reserve the right to refuse returns that do not meet these conditions.
5. Return Windows & Procedures

- Returns must be requested within 7 days of delivery.
c. Fine-Art Prints (theprintspace)

- Where a manufacturing fault is confirmed, Contrado will repair, replace, or refund.
e. Specialist Framed Declaration Artworks and Deposit Orders
- This category includes Declaration 3D Fine Art Facsimiles, Declaration Gold Metallic Print Editions, and other order-specific framed Declaration artworks.
- Where a reservation deposit is offered, the deposit secures the order, production place, and/or edition allocation. For the Declaration of Arbroath Fine-Art 3D Facsimile — 7th Centennial Edition, the current deposit option may be £440 due at checkout, with the remaining balance due before completion, collection, delivery, or fulfilment. At the current £1,320 product price, this means a £880 remaining balance before any agreed delivery or custom shipping charge.
- If you cancel before production, allocation, certification, bespoke finishing, framing, or other committed work begins, we will normally refund the deposit or part-payment, less any unavoidable payment processing or administration cost that cannot be recovered.
- Once production, allocation, certification, bespoke finishing, framing, specialist packing, or other order-specific work has begun, deposits and part-payments are not automatically refundable. Any refund will be considered case by case, taking account of costs already committed, work already completed, reserved edition allocation, and whether the artwork can reasonably be reallocated or resold.
- If you do not pay the remaining balance after reasonable reminders, we may cancel the order, release the reserved piece or edition number, and retain all or part of the deposit to cover committed costs and lost production time.
- No framed Declaration artwork will be released for collection, delivery, dispatch, or fulfilment until the full balance and any agreed delivery, packing, insurance, or custom shipping charge has been paid.
- This does not affect your statutory rights if the item is faulty, damaged in transit, or not as described.
