This FRAMED COLLECTOR'S EDITION of the Star-Spangled Banner tartan is a fine-art print commemorating the heritage of the historic 1814 Great Garrison Flag — the enduring emblem of a young America standing firm in the face of adversity.
Designed in Arbroath, Scotland (the birthplace of the Declaration of Arbroath) and assembled in the United States for U.S. orders, it transforms the opening verse of America’s national anthem into a period-evocative display of plaid and color. It recalls the smoke-lit night when the flag withstood the bombardment of Fort McHenry and greeted the dawn still waving — proof the young nation endured.
From the heart of Scottish tradition, the Tartan250 PAST Edition is the first official release of this historic colorway, created as a unique “tartan for the clans” of the original Union of States. Crafted with archival-quality materials and museum-grade precision, each print is individually numbered and comes with a certificate of authenticity to preserve its story and symbolism for years to come.

Permission Granted
The official registration of the Star-Spangled Banner (Flag of 1814) tartan was only made possible with permission being granted from the Smithsonian Institution — stewards of the original flag in Washington, D.C. Beginning in 2020, this process involved many months of thoughtful correspondence, careful review, and due diligence. Filled with hopeful anticipation, each exchange reflected the deep historical significance of the flag. Finally, in April 2021, the Smithsonian formally granted permission to register and name the tartan.
This milestone marked the culmination of a determined journey, and on July 4, 2021 — fittingly, Independence Day — the tartan was registered at the Scottish Register of Tartans.
This permission pertains solely to registration and does not imply endorsement by the Smithsonian Institution.
ECHOES of Fort McHenry
In tribute to the United States Semiquincentennial Year, this framed PAST edition presents the 1814 Star-Spangled Banner — created as a variant of the official tartan design by Scottish artist Steven Patrick Sim (registered as Tartan #13214).
Time-faded navy, aged ivory, and ember-red evoke the original Great Garrison Flag — its colors softened by time, its geometry recalling the 15 stars and 15 stripes that rallied a young republic through trial — and war. The broad red and ivory bars are set to a 13-thread count, each bearing the patina of age — a quiet testament to a nation finding its voice and standing firm in its ideals.
The blue canton’s aged-white sparkles suggest stars in a smoky night sky, while broad red and ivory bands within the sett recall the fiery trails of rockets over the fort — the drama of battle embedded in the weave.

Framing and Presentation
Each Star-Spangled Banner Past Edition is set in a Nielsen Quadrum® gallery-standard frame — a trusted name in European fine-art framing, used by leading museums, galleries, and professional photographers. Favored by my publisher — theprintspace — for their quality, these German-made frames unite sustainable materials with lasting strength. Made from FSC®-certified solid wood and finished with a refined oak veneer, the oak finish reveals a smooth, natural grain. This edition’s frame comes in Oak, with a 16 mm face width and 25 mm depth, ready to hang.
For safe delivery worldwide, A1-size frames use 3 mm crystal-clear acrylic — a shatter-resistant, high-clarity alternative to glass that eliminates breakage risk in transit. After delivery, the acrylic can be replaced with archival UV-protective glass by a local framer if preferred by the customer.
Each frame includes a cream, acid-free mount and sturdy rear panel, arriving display-ready — combining preservation quality with sustainable craftsmanship.
Premium Gallery Backing & Hanging System
Building on the craftsmanship above, the Backing & Hanging System features a central sawtooth hanger fixed into the hardboard backing, keeping the frame level on the wall. Please note: The product photos show our 16 × 22 in. frame, which uses two rotating clips per side.
The larger A1 frame you will receive includes extra clips along the top, bottom, and sides to provide additional support and stability due to its size. These clips are discreet and do not affect the frame’s classic appearance or ease of hanging.
This gallery-standard frame is built for preservation, presentation, and everyday use.
Highlighted Features
Crafted by Nielsen Quadrum® — German-made, gallery-standard framing trusted by professionals worldwide.

Easy to Open — Clips rotate smoothly for simple access should remounting or conservation work be required in future.
Durable Hardboard Backing — Protects the artwork from dust, handling, and environmental changes.
Central Sawtooth Hanger — Ensures quick, level hanging for portrait display.
Extra Stability for Large Frames — The large frame for this product measures approximately 23.4 by 32.1 inches, slightly larger than A1 size, making it ideal for fine art and display. Unlike the smaller frame shown in the image gallery, this size includes additional clips along the sides and top for enhanced stability and support, ensuring that your artwork is securely held. Please note that the gallery images above do not fully show all the clips included on this larger frame, which provide extra reinforcement for such substantial pieces.

O say can you see, by the dawn’s early light,
A Limited Edition Giclée Print of 1,776 copies
Star-Spangled Banner (Flag of 1814) – TARTAN #13214 – In celebration of the Semiquincentennial Anniversary of the United States of America, marking 250 years since the Declaration of Independence, July 4, 1776–2026. Two and a half centuries of independence, liberty, and unity — ideals reflected in the RED, WHITE, and BLUE of the American flag.
This commemorative tartan was created to honor the Star-Spangled Banner — the historic US flag carried during the War of 1812, and the same “Great Garrison Flag” that soared above Fort McHenry during the pivotal Battle of Baltimore on September 13, 1814.
