This FRAMED COLLECTOR'S EDITION of the Star‑Spangled Banner tartan is a fine-art print celebrating the present-day 50‑star flag—symbolizing America as she stands today.
Designed in Arbroath, Scotland (the birthplace of the Declaration of Arbroath) and assembled in the United States for U.S. orders, it transforms the opening verse of America’s national anthem into a vibrant display of plaid and color to commemorate the nation’s 250th year.
From the heart of Scottish tradition, the Tartan250 PRESENT Edition is the first official release of this tartan, serving as a unique “tartan for the clans” of all 50 states. Produced with archival materials and museum‑quality craftsmanship, each print is individually numbered and certified for lasting authenticity.

HONORING
—the USA Semiquincentennial Year
The Flag of Today—A Tribute in Tartan
In commemoration of the United States Semiquincentennial Year, this framed edition presents the modern Star-Spangled Banner—as interpreted through the official tartan design by Scottish artist Steven Patrick Sim, (registered as Tartan #13214).
Luminous azure‑blue—with star‑white pivots—sparkle within deep navy fields, recalling the 50 states. Inspired by the geometry of the US flag, these stand alongside dynamic red grounds, with 13‑count stripes alternating between broad scarlet and white—honoring the original thirteen colonies. All are held in the balanced symmetry of the sett. Together, these reds, blues, stars, and stripes embody the spirit of the United States flag—representing unity and serving as a constellation of hope in the 21st century.

Permission Granted
The creation of the Star-Spangled Banner (Flag of 1814) tartan was only made possible through securing formal permission from the Smithsonian Institution—stewards of the original flag in Washington, D.C. Beginning in 2020, this vital process involved many months of thoughtful correspondence, careful review, and due diligence. Filled with anticipation and passion, each exchange reflected the deep historical significance of the flag. Finally, in April 2021, the Smithsonian formally granted permission to register and name the tartan.
This milestone marked the culmination of a determined journey, and on July 4, 2021—fittingly, Independence Day—the tartan was officially entered into the Scottish Register of Tartans.

Framing & Presentation
Each Star‑Spangled Banner Present Edition comes in a Nielsen Quadrum® gallery‑standard frame — one of Europe’s most respected fine‑art framing brands, trusted by galleries, museums, and professional photographers worldwide. Favored by my publisher — theprintspace — for their quality, these German‑made frames pair sustainable materials with durable, long‑lasting construction. Crafted from FSC®‑certified solid wood with a refined oak veneer, the oak‑finished frame shows a smooth natural grain. For this edition, it is available in Oak, with a 16 mm face width and 25 mm depth, supplied ready to hang.
~ ~ ~
To ensure safe worldwide delivery, A1‑size frames are glazed with 3 mm crystal‑clear acrylic — a high‑grade, shatter‑resistant alternative to glass that offers excellent clarity while eliminating breakage risk in transit. After delivery, customers may have the acrylic replaced with archival UV‑protective glass by a local framer if preferred.
~ ~ ~
Each framed piece includes a deep black, acid‑free mount and durable rear panel, arriving display‑ready — blending museum‑grade preservation with sustainable craftsmanship.
Premium Gallery Backing & Hanging System
Building on the craftsmanship above, the Backing & Hanging System features a central sawtooth hanger fixed into the hardboard backing, keeping the frame level on the wall. Please note: The product photos show our 16 × 22 in. frame, which uses two rotating clips per side.
~ ~ ~
The larger A1 frame you will receive includes extra clips along the top, bottom, and sides to provide additional support and stability due to its size.
These clips are discreet and do not affect the frame’s classic appearance or ease of hanging.
This gallery-standard frame is built for preservation, presentation, and everyday use.
