EARTHRISE 2.0 …rise from the dark

SAVE OUR BLUE PLANET!

Almost 10 years ago - in December 2013 - I was inspired to create the Earthrise tartan.

For want of a better word, I was ‘enraptured’ by ‘Earthrise’ …the world-famous photo, which was declared "the most influential environmental photograph ever taken”. A profound image captured at an unprecedented moment in time. I was moved to capture the essence of that iconic photo …in the woven cloth. A portrait of our pristine Blue Planet in tartan.

-

Soon after I had the first bolts of Earthrise tartan produced, the cloth for the most part being used for an early run of numbered and certified kilts. EARTHRISE 1.0 was woven, and the first kilts were made.

-

Fast-forward to 2023, and I feel it’s now time to re-launch the Earthrise tartan - EARTHRISE 2.0 - and pickup where I left off. For me that means going back to offering the remaining kilts (from the first 100) numbered and certified, and supplied by myself as the creator of the tartan. So these particular kilts being labeled with my own brand.

-

Yet, much more importantly... there is STILL that profound message in the tartan, within the yarns, derived from the original ‘Earthrise’ photograph! ...today being more relevant than ever before!

Reminding us... that our world is precious, fragile ...and unique. A blue jewel in the blackness of the void. Our home.

MARCH 2023 …new beginnings

-

Now, after a difficult period for me, in recent years …including the pandemic, the loss of my dear wee mum (the much loved and popular Scottish Artist Sheena Christie) ...and an unexpected crisis of confidence & self belief - I’ve decided its time to ‘rise from the dark’. Time to start weaving again, offering the products my customers really want - TARTAN - and the kilts and other items I can produce from that.

By wearing an Earthrise kilt you too can take part in declaring that important - yet unspoken - message, as the Apollo Astronauts had done so before us...

-

The tartan pays tribute to 'Earthrise' - the most iconic image of the 20th century, and was declared by wilderness photographer Gallen Rowell (in Life Magazine's 100 Photographs that Changed the World edition) as “the most influential environmental photograph ever taken”.

-

I truly believe that critical message in the Earthrise tartan - NOW MORE THAN EVER - must again be broadcast ...and shared! - #SaveOurBluePlanet

...and I hope the tartan can do that ...even in some small way.

You can help me, by following my Instagram page - and maybe getting involved, with a wee like, or share now and again!

MORE - About the 2020 weaves... (Earthrise 1.5)

-

The kilted community is truly worldwide, and an awesome ‘clan’ to be a part of! An international family of kilt enthusiasts abroad, as well as here at home in Scotland! Many of you will be aware of the Earthrise tartan as in 2020 I had the privilege of supplying cloth to other professional kilt-makers in the trade, to various parts of the world.

-

This was really positive for me ...raising awareness of the Earthrise tartan, which I am truly grateful for. Also, working with other kilt-makers in the trade was a real pleasure. However, after much thought for these 2023 weaves, and until I can figure out how best I can collaborate with other kilt-makers directly, I want to focus on offering my own numbered & certified Earthrise kilts to my own customers. For that reason I'm not supplying large bolts of tartan to other kilt-makers at this time ...in the meantime for this run.

-

This may change in the future for other weaves, as I see there is high demand for many of my tartans... and suggestions how future collaborations can be made possible are still very welcome.

...that all said :

Kilt lengths & CLOTH PRE-ORDERING...

Kilt lengths (in 4 metres double width 16oz) can still be ordered from me and supplied to the kilt-maker of your choice.
Thus, I am still taking cloth orders - up to a maximum of 12 metres per customer - for the Earthrise 2.0 weave. Therefore, if you would like to acquire tartan fabric to take to a kilt-maker of your choice that’s not a problem. Please message me with your request for a pre-order for that.

-

Or alternatively you can pre-order one of my own numbered and certified kilts, supplied direct from myself. If you do I would also appreciate that very much, as your kilt order would further support and help me remain viable as a small Scottish business.

-

WEAVE TIMESCALE UPDATE! - My recent North Sea Oil kilt promotion has resulted in a greater response than anticipated. The deadline for the Earthrise weave has been pushed back due to increased workload!
